ICT Successes
The DUNGRI – ICT project is a project designed by NAVTI Foundation and SBIGWEB CIG, Cameroon focusing on bringing ICT and its education related applications to our rural community members and students. where kids are born using the computer and the developing community where computers remain a mystery even to many urban dwellers in Cameroon.
We created the Computer and Information Technology project because: Ministry of Secondary Education in Cameroon report ranks the North West province as having high illiteracy rates because of the high prevalent of poverty level that hinders parents from sending their children to school; furthermore, those who can afford to go most often end their schooling at a primary educational level; computer literacy level stands at less then 15 % of the literate population of this region; most computers found in this region are refurbished Pentium 2 models with many still refurbished 486 models.
Results so far:
In March 2008, NAVTI Foundation Hong Kong and Cameroon went into cooperation with Caritas HK to refurbish and donate to us working computers. The first shipment of 250 computers was shipped and arrived in Cameroon in June. It was sponsored by GIFT H.K and NAVTI Foundation, Cameroon.
In August 2008, the second container of 400 computers left for Cameroon. 200 Pentium 4s CPU and 110 monitors were donated by Cathay Pacific thanks to the help of Mr Mark Yip. 200 Pentium 3 CPUs and 80 monitors where bought from Caritas center HK. The computers arrived in Cameroon end of September and we cleared them from customs by 12 of October 2008.

Future projections:We believe that by “Bridging IT and Education” we are making a major step towards bringing sustainable development in our communities. This DUNGRI ICT project is a primary way in which NAVTI Foundation is trying to achieve this goal.
We have a vision to bring in 1000 computers to Cameroon and the Republic of Niger during 2007-08 periods. Our major focus is to set computer training centres in schools and community multi media or Tele centres in some towns in these two countries.
