Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Scholarship Scheme (1 year program)
We launched our first scholarship scheme on June 08, 2004 at Tobin Catholic Primary School to underprivileged students. Prizes were awarded to the first three pupils who passed their examination in each of the classes in three primary schools in Kumbo. Winning pupils came from Tobin Catholic School, Marem Islamic Primary School and Meluf Presbyterian School, they won exercise books, rulers, and ball points/pencils. In total, over sixty prizes were awarded to the pupils, this was done in the presence of our first volunteer, Ms Lesley Abraham from Canada, Fai Kilam, Mr. Lawrence Shang and some 200 others.
By sponsoring the OVC in the Bui Division to pursue their education in schools, we intend to reduce the number of drop out students due to financial inabilities, thus promoting a positive change in the lives of these unfortunate children. Items of sponsorship: School fees, textbooks and exercise books, stationery, uniform, etc.
In the 06/07 academic year, we sponsored 150 pupils. Much of our fundraising is done through our foreign volunteers who raise funds through their network. Fan lau was the OVC Project Manager for the 05/06 academic year while Mike Li and Lieke Dillen were managers for 06/07.
