Women Program Successes

NAVTI Foundation NGO has designed programs focusing on women because we feel women in our community are heavily marginalized hence fall under the domain of under privileged. We manage this program in hand with other NGO's such as WWW CIG Kumbo.

Our area of operation is a rural area mostly made up of communities with 80% illiterates who need guidance in managing and running their activities hence the need for service providers to guide them.

Here, we are working with about 20+ women groups from different areas of the Division Organising them, training them, assisting them write their projects and looking for funding for them. We try to make them know that women can do something if they are well organised for collective action pays more than individual action. We see faster community development and cooperation through women than men. We are using our 7 ton truck to assist transport farm to market products for women groups at cheaper cost.

Support to the community development women union

Under the Women’s Program of the organisation through which the organisation seeks to empower women economically, this union of women groups benefited from a cash donation of 100,000 Frs CFA(150 euro) from the organisation . The amount was to help them to start up income generating activities in order to be economically viable and not be relegated to traditional positions where women were economically dependent on men.

Donated cornmills to women groups

With grants of 9,000,000 Frs. CFA (14,000 euro), from Holzheu Foundation Germany through Regency of Lomar Foundation Germany, we donated 10 corn mills to women groups in Bui Division. This went to help women in areas without access to corn mills, reducing long distances to transform their corn grain to corn flour. This is used to prepare corn fufu the main meal of the region. Many villages lack these facilities and through the beneficiary women groups, the long distances women used to trek from one village to another to grind corn has been greatly reduced. For more information on this event see the cornmills donation.

Further studies for our female coordinator

On 01 April 2006, Mrs. Tatah Theodora boards the plane to fly to Japan to attend a 9 months Rural Leadership Training Program organised by Asian Rural Institute (ARI) to train leaders to manage community works. This is a wonderful achievement for our organisation as she will become a big asset for the organisation upon completion. We also sent our second female worker - Mrs Berinyuy Jane Francis to this school this 2007 academic year for more training.

Support to Ms Florence to start hair dressing workshop

Opening and equipping a hair dressing workshop for Ms Florence Moba fell in line with the organisations objective of helping the underprivileged to be self reliant. Through the efforts of foster parents, this orphan was given primary education and training in hair dressing. With funds from our Swiss volunteer, we offered her equipment and advance payment for rents worth 230 euros to start her own workshop.
