Women's Program
The NAVTI Foundation NGO has designed programs which focus on women, we feel women in our community are heavily marginalized hence fall under the domain of under privileged. We manage this program in hand with other NGO's such as Self-Reliance Promoters NGO Kumbo.
Our area of operation is a rural area mostly made up of communities where 80% of the inhabitants are illiterate and need guidance in managing and running their activities hence the need for service providers to guide them.
We work with about 60+ women groups from different areas of the division organising, training and assisting them in writing their projects and looking for funding for them. We try and instil the knowledge in them that women can achieve if only they are well organised as collective action achieves more then individual action.
We developed this scheme because:
- We classified the rural women as being under privileged.
- Women are the stronger arm of development today.
- Women are more hard working than men in most of our communities.
- Women are more caring hence have more zeal to foster developmental activities then men.
- The role of the woman in rural development is very critical for they are the bedrock of most African families.
- Women also have a tendency for more solidarity then men.
- Women are more reliable then men when it comes to team work.
The thing we learnt from working with women is that they are more concerned about the welfare of their community.
- We have helped them get capital to start small income projects like sales of palm oil and salons for basic household needs, hence raising funds to sustain their activities.
- Many of these communities lack schools hence leading to high rural urban migration.
- Finally, we are looking for means to supply them with farm inputs at cheaper prices and as well help transport their products from the farm to the market and even assist them market their products.
We emphasize that they should all work as a group to reduce costs and handle their community in a collective manner. Hence the empowerment of the rural women who we consider underprivileged is a good tool for rural development.
